Ennepetal/Essen, Germany. DORMA will be showcasing its new MATRIX AIR product line to the public for the first time at security 2014. As a first step the Ennepetal-based company is exhibiting at Stand 606 in Hall 3 a wide-stile/timber door with MATRIX AIR fitting and a glass door with MATRIX AIR lock cylinder.
The housing of the MATRIX AIR wide-stile/timber door fitting accommodates an ID card reader, coupling mechanism and batteries. Parts of the coupling mechanism and batteries are integrated in the handle, which makes the extremely shallow design possible. The coupling mechanism is “freewheeling”, i.e. the handle can move freely in its initial state and only engages following authorization. A Bluetooth interface is integrated for wireless programming. The fitting can be programmed with the new MATRIX AIR APP.
The design of this fitting, which is currently the shallowest on the market, received the gold 2014 iF design award. With the MATRIX AIR fitting both the top cover (black or white) and the bottom cover (with or without profile cylinder preparation) can be easily replaced. The fitting is designed as a half set. This means it can be used with handle sets already present in the building or combined with DORMA Door Furniture and Fittings handles. The combination with the 8906 handle series is on display at the booth. This enables a uniform design throughout the building.
The MATRIX AIR cylinder is an electronic lock cylinder from the MATRIX AIR product family. The cylinder is battery-operated and can be retrofitted completely without cabling, even in difficult installation situations, e.g. in glass doors. The cylinder knob rotates freely in its initial state. When an authorized ID card is presented, the knob engages and the door can be unlocked or locked. The inner knob is of a purely mechanical design in this model. A special feature of the cylinder is that it is of a modular and telescopic design. Modular means that the reader module (cylinder knob with electronics), cylinder adapter (mechanical cylinder) and inner knob are available individually and can be freely combined. Telescopic means that the locking cylinder has a notched function that allows it to adapt flexibly to different door thicknesses
These features enable simple, wireless and uncomplicated retrofitting of electronic access control systems in buildings, even in difficult situations. There is also no need for the time-consuming measurement of doors. A wide variety of installation situations can be covered with just a few versions of the cylinder.
Access rights can be assigned, deleted or modified via Bluetooth in a couple of finger taps using the MATRIX AIR APP. This simple, intuitive drag & drop system is ideal for smaller applications.
