Ennepetal/Frankfurt. This year saw the first edition of the German Design Council’s “Iconic Awards”, with DORMA receiving no less than three of the debut accolades. The company was twice a winner in the “Product” category for its ITS 96 FL integrated door closer with free-swing action, and for the XS Quattro product family comprised of security door furniture and lock cylinders. It also garnered a “Communication” award for the campaign entitled “From Excellence to Perfection” introduced to reposition the DORMA brand.
“We are delighted that, at this premiere of the Iconic Awards, we have succeeded in garnering three such honors – and with three completely different entries to the competition,” commented Mario Dreismann, Vice President Group Marketing & Sales, adding: “The Iconic Awards represent the first international architecture and design competition that considers all the various contributory disciplines as a whole; consequently, they reflect our own holistic approach, anchored in our corporate culture as one of our brand values. The conferral of these awards in different categories also indicates that the German Design Council appreciates how holistic we are in marshalling our innovation capabilities.”
This year for the first time, the German Design Council recognized visionary architecture, innovative products and penetrative communication with its newly instituted Iconic Awards. The competition’s compass extends to every branch of architecture, the construction industry, the realty sector and manufacturing. The competition thus serves to underline the elementary significance of multi-discipline integration. The decision on who should receive the 2013 Iconic Awards was taken by an independent expert jury comprised of representatives from the fields of building architecture, interior styling, product design and brand communication.
Andrej Kupetz, General Manager of the German Design Council, was evidently pleased at the competition’s debut: “Extensive international participation accompanied by a large number of high-caliber entries has left us delighted with this first edition of our Iconic Awards, turning it into an unmitigated success. Our approach of honoring these various disciplines as an integrated whole, and thus promoting architecture from the holistic standpoint, brought a very positive response. The encouraging feedback received provides us with all the motivation we need to host a second edition next year and further expand the competition.”
Awards for DORMA
The ITS 96 FL integrated door closer with free-swing action offers simple handling and effortless operation combined with elegantly simple styling. The closer body and slide channel are of such compact design that they can be concealed in the door and frame. As an integrated free-swing door closer, the ITS 96 FL is particularly suitable for barrier-free constructions as well as preventative fire control. After having activated the free swing function, the door can be opened without any resistance, just as if there was no door closer at all. In an emergency case, the doors will close safely and the EASY OPEN technology ensures an easy access.
The XS Quattro product family encompasses a range of door furniture and lock cylinders, rendering the line exceptionally versatile. The XS Quattro styling is characterized by distinct, slender design lines, with discretion assured by its cable-less installation. As the shallowest electric module of its kind, the now awarded XS security fitting is particularly suitable for prestigious glass systems. The XS Quattro series is currently at an advanced stage of development and is scheduled to become available in the market in the near future.
The campaign From Excellence to Perfection, and particularly the new claim DORMA. THE ACCESS. have resulted in the DORMA brand being successfully repositioned. The objective was to establish DORMA as an international partner for premium access and service solutions – with the implicit brand promise being translated into themes and images for specific audiences in the course of the campaign.
