DORMA enters the Japanese market; company continues international growth, leadership

ENNEPETAL, Germany/TOKYO - DORMA Group has acquired from the Japanese Group Daihatsu Diesel MFG, Co. Ltd., 25 percent of the shares in the latter’s subsidiary, Daihatsu Diesel NHN, Co. Ltd.. Like DORMA, the company specializes in the manufacture and sale of products in the door control and automatic door system segments.

This joint venture will expand DORMA Group’s worldwide reach and further solidify DORMA Group as a worldwide leader in the door control and automatic door industries. Japan is one of the world’s most important and largest markets for door closers and automatic door systems. In the automatic door systems segment, the Japanese market accounts for nearly one third of total worldwide demand.

Producing door closers since 1975 and automatic door systems since 1985 at its Osaka headquarters, Daihatsu is the only Japanese producer that has both door closers and automatic door systems in its portfolio. The company has a 25 percent share of the Japanese door control market. With this share deal, DORMA has gained access to one of the globe’s most important markets for door closers and automatic door systems, enabling it to market its own products in what is the second largest economy in the world.
