Westwood Mall, Durban

The Westwood Shopping Mall is 35 000 m² in size and is home to 150 top branded stores and restaurants. The architects required hardwearing but stylish panic hardware and door furniture to compliment the building’s modern lines and to cater to the customers’ needs.

Found at each entrance door, DPH 206 Straight Offset Handles used in conjunction with BTS 80 EN6 Floor Springs – a solution to create a mechanism strong enough to endure the high flow of traffic, and to provide an option to leave the door in a ‘hold open’ position.

The DPH 209 Straight Handles can be found on all ‘service’ cupboards, matching the DPH 206 Straight Offset Handles found at the entrances. The PHB 3000 Panic Hardware was selected for escape doors visible to the public eye owing to its modular-design and aesthetic appeal and PHA 2000 Panic Hardware installed in passages and shop exit doors.

The compact TS 73 V door closer fitted to each door was chosen as result of its attractive price and reliability. The brief insisted upon a door closer that would withstand wind drafts and be suited to a wide range of applications.
