DORMA expands its competency portfolio
differentiated product ranges for the public and private market segments
Ennepetal, Germany. Door system supplier DORMA is presenting an expanded competency portfolio at BAU 2009 in Munich. Appearing at two separate exhibition stands, the company is to exhibit its latest developments with selected products and services on a deliberately split platform. In adopting this spatially separated format, DORMA has recognised that the different requirements of its customers and partner firms will, in future, need to be more accurately defined and satisfied. The “Public” product segment in Hall B1, Stand 518, offers a honed applications profile geared to satisfying the requirements encountered in the public domain – based as ever on a combination of high quality, functionality and aesthetic appeal. Meanwhile, the new “Interior” range appearing at Stand 302 in Hall C4 applies the characteristic benefits associated with the DORMA brand to the creation of style and ambience in the private sphere.
Spatial efficiency, transparency and user-friendliness are at the centre of the Interior concepts on show. The company is responding with this new portfolio to the increasing demand for convenience and functional room layouts within the private home environment and intelligent solutions for semi-commercial space utilisation. Additional ideas are also available from the newly created internet platform www.dorma-interior.com. The DORMA System Partners scheme also offers fabricators and installers specific training and qualification opportunities related to this private customer market.
DORMA Interior – high-value solutions for stylish living
The contemporary exhibits at the company’s Interior stand are aligned to the emotional appeal of space, transparency, elegance and ambience. Architects, interior designers, fabricators and installers will find a wealth of imaginative ideas to inspire their own creativity on the supply side, as will private householders and free-lance professionals looking to enhance their premises. The solutions on show offer a wide range of situation suitability: whether for the kitchen, bathroom, balcony, living room or bedroom, DORMA can supply tailored systems offering all the benefits of its extensive expertise. The systematic approach adopted by this manufacturer has been particularly instrumental in incorporating a high degree of flexibility and individuality in its products for this segment. They therefore greatly facilitate the functional and aesthetically attractive integration of an office, studio or doctor’s surgery within the home environment.
With its “Living” and “Working” subsegments, DORMA aims to satisfy the demand for workable lifestyle concepts implemented within the smallest of spaces. Innovative technologies and design excellence provide a basis upon which various demands can be satisfied and systems harmoniously combined within just a few square metres. The MSTS 5000 Vario sliding door system, for example, makes the most of the available space by alternately combining and separating different functional areas. The private and professional spheres of the household occupants are thus – literally – brought under one roof to optimum effect. Various colours and surface finishes are also available, affording plenty of scope for the creation of individual as well as efficient room designs. And the MSTS 5000 Vario can also be operated around corners for that often essential added dimension.
In bathroom environments, a toughened glass walk-in shower can create that barrier-free effect that is key to the impression of spaciousness. DORMA’s transparent shower enclosure not only eliminates the usual step-up but also proves that an apparently “cold” material can contribute to a warm, cosy atmosphere.
In the creation of in-home convenience, DORMA focuses on solutions that are able to impress equally through their reliable functionality, design appeal and ease of operation. With innovative products such as the CS 80 MAGNEO sliding door operator and the PORTEO door assistant, the Interior portfolio provides a range of possibilities for modifying space easily, quickly and without loss of visual elegance.
Interior room concepts also available on the internet
The Interior website is set to go live on January 12, ready for the start of Europe’s leading trade fair for architecture, construction materials and building systems. Available at www.dorma-interior.com, this new internet platform will be showcasing suggestions and ideas covering lifestyle trends and spatial concepts under the headings of “Living” and “Working”. The comprehensive content includes not only specific product information and example configurations or layouts, but also panoramic views of the suggested solutions.
DORMA Public sets new functional and aesthetic priorities
With its “Public” portfolio, DORMA has introduced a more clearly defined set of applications intended to make product selection easier for its market partners. “Travelling” covers DORMA’s product range for projects involving high volumes of public transit and destination traffic. The “Meeting” subsegment is focused on the specific spatial architecture required in business and educational environments, while the “Shopping” category covers the needs of modern retail malls and stores.
As would be expected of DORMA, the emphasis in all three subsegments is on functionality and aesthetic elegance. In the case of those products specifically designed for the Public domain, moreover, additional priority has been given to ensuring exceptional resilience and safety. How these various requirements are met within one and the same model is demonstrated at BAU 2009 by, among others, the electro-mechanical swing door operators ED 100 and ED 250. Despite their slender appearance, these two easy-to-install units are able to operate door leaves of 100 and 250 kg respectively with maximum energy efficiency yet with power to spare. Meanwhile, the free-swing door closer TS 99 FLR ensures smooth pedestrian traffic flows: installed in conjunction with a smoke detector system, the device is suitable for doors of up to 1,250 mm in width, allowing them to be manually operated without resistance yet ensuring reliable and automatic closure in the event of an alarm or power failure.
As a visual highlight at BAU 2009, DORMA will be presenting further products sporting the award-winning DORMA Contur design. Not only the newly created fittings for emergency exit doors from the DORMA Panic Hardware range are able to blend harmoniously with the interior architecture; for the new DORMA Premium range from DORMA Beschlagtechnik GmbH is also predestined to create the impression of quality and prestige. This line of high-end door furniture constitutes a continuation of the portfolio formerly marketed under the OGRO label which – effective January 1, 2009 – has now been incorporated into the DORMA brand.
Market-aligned support and preventive product maintenance
A wide spectrum of services – tailored by experts for experts – complements DORMA’s comprehensive product portfolio. And now the programme has been further extended ready for BAU 2009: the “DORMA System Partners” scheme supporting the trade has been augmented with services relating to DORMA’s systems for home and semi-commercial space utilisation. A substantial package of support measures has been put in place for the private customer market, providing professional assistance to fabricators and installers as they build their competencies in relation to DORMA’s new “Interior” segment.
Adopting the philosophy of prevention being better than cure, DORMA After-Sales is also stepping up its activities in the field of preventive maintenance, with greater emphasis on the periodic replacement of wearing parts. With repair, refurbishment and upgrade services, it offers improved operating cost budgeting and control combined with enhanced value retention in respect of both DORMA
and third-party systems.
