New market opportunities for fabricators and installers

DORMA service spectrum focuses on training and preventive maintenance

Ennepetal, Germany. The start of BAU 2009 sees the launch of DORMA’s extended range of after-sales services for its customers and market associates. In future, installers and fabricators will, through the DORMA System Partners scheme, be able to additionally train and qualify for work in DORMA’s “Interior” segment and so further expand the range of services that they offer. In the after-sales sector, this international systems supplier is also stepping up its activities in the field of preventive maintenance, thus enabling clients to optimise their operating cost planning.

“Interior” opens up new market potential
The cross-product collaboration concept adopted in the DORMA System Partners scheme remains unique within the industry. Around 700 specialist firms operating in the metal, timber, glass, electrical installation and interior outfitting segments have so far come together under the DORMA umbrella, enabling them to continually adapt to market developments with the right level of professional support. With its new product segment “Interior”, DORMA is now able to offer affiliated firms the chance of further expanding their portfolio into the private home sector. Specifically serving this new market, a comprehensive programme has been developed that not only incorporates practical sales training but also courses on how to address this new category of private clientele. Professional communication materials on the subject are available for the associated trade firms to use in their own marketing activities. And as a special benefit, DORMA will be listing partner companies specialising and specifically trained to install “Interior” products and systems on its dedicated internet platform www.dorma-interior.com. It also intends to pass on enquiries directly to those qualified firms.

Preventive maintenance for long-term value retention
DORMA ensures that its customers get the support they need, even after the sale and installation of its products. There are some 1,000 qualified service engineers working for the company around the world, of which just 200 are in Germany. In addition to installation and commissioning, their primary tasks include the maintenance, repair, modernisation and replacement of existing hardware and systems. In order to make operating cost budgeting even easier for customers in the future and also to ensure that equipment value is retained over the longer term, DORMA is shifting its focus in its after sales business towards prevention rather than cure. Preventive maintenance with the regular replacement of wearing parts is to be given preference wherever possible in order to avoid failures and malfunctions of whatever kind. The necessary spares are available right around the world.

This comprehensive technical service capability not only embraces DORMA’s own products but also third-party systems and components. The maintenance portfolio covers everything from automatic sliding door sets and swing door hardware to partitioning systems and industrial doors. The spectrum also includes tailored, modular maintenance and refurbishment packages enabling older systems to be updated to the latest safety standards. And as a further plus: a fault management service with 24-hour on-call availability.
