DORMA enters the Japanese market
Joint venture agreement finalized in the presence of NRW state minister Michael Breuer
Ennepetal (Germany)/Tokyo. The DORMA Group completes its strategic entry into the Japanese market. Initially, this involves the acquisition by DORMA, from the Japanese Group Daihatsu Diesel MFG, Co. Ltd., of 25 percent of the shares in the latter’s subsidiary Daihatsu Diesel NHN, Co. Ltd. headquartered in Osaka. Like DORMA, this company specializes in the manufacture and sale of products in the door control and automatic door system segments. A corresponding joint venture agreement was finalized in Tokyo by DORMA CEO Dr. Michael Schädlich and President of Daihatsu Diesel MFG, Tokunori Ishibashi, in the presence of North Rhine-Westphalia state minister Michael Breuer. The minister is currently visiting the NRW presentation forum in Tokyo as part of “Germany in Japan” year.
At its Osaka site in central Japan, Daihatsu Diesel MFG has been producing door closers since 1975 and automatic door systems since 1985. The company also has a close-meshed nationwide sales and distribution network, enabling it to acquire and serve a 25-percent share of the Japanese door control market. “With this share deal, DORMA has gained access to one of the globe’s most important national markets for door closers and automatic door systems, enabling it to market its own products in what is the second largest economy in the world,” commented the DORMA CEO in describing his company’s motivation behind the joint venture. For its part, Daihatsu will gain an opportunity to significantly expand its own portfolio through know-how and product transfer from DORMA as the world market leader in this segment.
