DORMA acquires glass door specialist MAME

Objective: Augmentation of distribution channels and product synergies

Ennepetal/Rietberg, Germany. Effective retroactively as per July 1, 2006, the DORMA Group has acquired MAME Türendesign GmbH domiciled in Rietberg, near Gütersloh. MAME is the market leader in Germany for surface-treated glass doors and, through is distribution channel in the form of the timber and construction components trade, is represented throughout Europe at around 2000 exhibitions. With its 50 employees, the company generates annual sales in the region of €9 million. “This acquisition of one of the most innovative companies in the market provides us with an opportunity of utilising a distribution channel for DORMA’s extensive range of architectural hardware products that was previously unavailable to us,” commented DORMA CEO Dr. Michael Schädlich in explaining the strategic rationale behind this move. There are also obvious synergies available from pooling the two companies’ competences in the field of glass fittings and accessories. MAME is thus to remain in the marketplace as a DORMA brand, with the company increasingly also marketing products from DORMA’s Glass division.
“Incorporating us within the DORMA network will greatly boost MAME’s future prospects,” explained founding partner Mario Mekus, who will be leaving the company at the end of the year but will continue to be available to the management in an advisory capacity. more…
