DORMA GmbH & Co. KG wins top employer award
Project mentor Wolfgang Clement presents award to door systems manufacturer
DORMA GmbH & Co KG, a company based in Ennepetal, Germany, has won a TOP JOB award for the second year running for its outstanding achievements in the field of HR management. The company achieved a top ten ranking in the "Remuneration Models" category. This accolade is awarded as part of the nationwide benchmarking survey of the same name, for which Professor Axel G. Schmidt of the Trier-based Institut für Mittelstandsökonomie (Inmit), a think-tank for SMEs, studies the quality of HR activities at medium-sized companies. The 2005 TOP JOB award has now been conferred on 57 companies, including DORMA GmbH & Co. KG. Wolfgang Clement, the mentor of this project, presented this prestigious prize in Nuremberg's Schindlerhof on the evening of Friday, 27 January. The companies taking part in the survey were rated in five categories: Vision & Leadership, HR Development, Remuneration Models, Culture & Communication, and Family & Social Orientation.
"These leading employers have demonstrated their exceptional ability to see the broader business picture. They are already investing in qualified and highly motivated employees. In view of demographic trends and the global market situation, this is the key - especially in Germany - to deciding who gets to play in the business equivalent of the Champions' League,“ stresses Wolfgang Clement, project mentor. One company that has made the grade is DORMA GmbH & Co. KG, a manufacturer of door-related products and systems. As a global operator, the company sees knowledge transfer between its 65 subsidiaries in 44 countries as one of its biggest challenges. Employees can gain experience of working abroad through international project rotation, and this also equips the company to cope with the increasing internationalisation of business. The huge level of investment in the company's headquarters in Ennepetal also bears testimony to the management's determination to secure local jobs for the long term. There is a special management trainee programme designed to prepare ambitious and promising young employees for a future role in management. The company's comprehensive remuneration model includes numerous extras such as company cars and allowances for families. DORMA rewards above-average productivity through performance-related bonus systems.
The aim of the project is to raise the profile of small and medium-sized enterprises on the labour market. Professor Schmidt does this by using a standardised method to determine which medium-sized companies stand out from the crowd by virtue of their high-quality HR management policies. Benchmarking enables the participants to measure themselves against other employers and then use this as a basis to improve their own practices. Of the 500 or so companies that expressed an interest, 125 took up the challenge and 57 of them ultimately passed the quality test. Those that made the TOP JOB grade are featured on the website at www.topjob.de and in the book which accompanies the project "TOP JOB 2006 – Germany's best SME employers“. The book is published by Wolfgang Clement.
