New Internet shop for installers and fabricators
B2B portal for the Security Time Access (STA) product segment: order placement via the Web saves time and money.
 Ennepetal/Germany. DORMA, international system supplier of products circling the door, is launching a webshop – accessible at https://shop.dorma-sta.com – for installers and fabricators, with the go-live scheduled to coincide with the Essen 2006 Security trade fair. This new Internet-based service is one of the four pillars in the ‘DORMA STARK’ customer support initiative. As a new DORMA domain, it allows access to around 600 articles from the Security Time Access (STA) division, offering registered users significant advantages – not least that of online ordering via the Internet saving both time and money. Business customers can access all the shop functions on a 24/7 basis, providing them with significantly more flexibility. Each product is precisely described to avoid errors. And initial registration can be completed quickly and reliably via the DORMA Sales organisation.
Fast, delay-free ordering
Because the DORMA webshop is integrated within the in-house enterprise resource planning system (ERP), ordering is conducted under real-time conditions: as soon as the customer has selected his products and transferred the shopping basket to the virtual checkout, the order is automatically fed into the DORMA ERP.
The customer immediately receives two confirmations of his order: first on screen with a form that can be printed out, and second in an e-mail showing the order number. The relevant delivery data are also provided. Finally, once the items have been picked, packed and despatched, the purchaser again receives an e-mail from DORMA, keeping him fully up to date on the progress of his consignment.
Compared to conventional ordering by fax or phone, this electronic alternative is not only faster but also more reliable: mistakes arising from poorly legible faxes or the misinterpretation of data phoned through are eliminated. There is also no longer any possibility of errors occurring during data transfer to the ERP.
Cash benefits
The webshop also offers users financial advantages. Initially, each product is costed on the basis of the standard price list. However, as soon as the customer has filled his shopping basket and the final total has been calculated, the system automatically generates individual pricing amendments based on the specific agreement between the purchaser and DORMA. Customers buying online will also not be required to pay any packaging or carriage costs. The usual small-quantity surcharge is likewise waived.
The site is particularly easy to use, with numerous additional functions available such as a comprehensive search facility and storage of past shopping baskets. The customer can thus retrieve his order history and save further time by simply repeating or slightly modifying previous purchases. Further convenience is provided in the form of part consignments in cases where individual product delivery dates vary.
The DORMA webshop for the STA segment is constantly updated and contains extensive information on new products. There is also a hotline to the DORMA customer service department, should problems occur.
Secure 128-bit SSL encryption is used for data transmission via the Internet. This cryptographic facility is considered to be immune to currently known hacker attack strategies and is supported by most servers and virtually every browser. The ‘closed padlock’ in the browser indicates that the connection is secure and that the information is being transferred in encrypted form.
This new DORMA online shop provides installers and fabricators with rapid information feedback and saves both time and money spent on the ordering process.
