Panic Hardware combined with the SVP line of emergency escape locks
Ennepetal/Germany. Protected against abuse yet instantly operable when danger arises, doors in emergency exits and escape routes are given the highest priority in terms of the equipment specifications applied in major building projects. However, the systems preferred in the international market can sometimes differ from those demanded by the domestic sector. In the international markets, it is predominantly surface-mounted systems that are employed - and the DORMA Panic Hardware systems PHA 2000 and PHB 3000 to EN 1125 with CE marking come into this category.
On the other hand, markets with a high proportion of so-called "emergency escape mortise locks" - such as the German sector - prefer integrated systems on the basis of an automatically engaging emergency escape lock in combination with the external panic bar. Since the introduction of EN 1125 with effect from 1st April 2003, there has been growing interest in integrated systems both in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
At IEM, DORMA is presenting a prototype of an integrated solution comprising a modified SVP 5000 lock and the DORMA PHA 2000 pushbar. This solution comes in the form of a modular concept which, following pending tests, will be available as a certified PHA 2500 system ready for shipment. The external fittings take the form of lever handles from the OGRO Standard range.
The prototype being shown in Cologne is a panic device manufactured to ISO 9001 with an aluminium casing and a lock mechanism designed to operate in conjunction with a Europrofile or Swiss round cylinder. It is suitable for concealed installation on timber and metal framed doors up to 1300 mm in width. The lock, which is released by operation of the pushbar, is a modified automatically engaging or simple-action panic lock with a backset of 35, 45, 55, 60 or 65 mm. With this modular kit expected to become available in the fourth quarter, DORMA has once again underlined its exceptional competence in the fields of panic hardware and emergency exit security, as well as enhancing its furniture and fittings portfolio for project doors.
The prototype integrated system comprising a modified SVP 5000 lock and the DORMA PHA 2000 pushbar offers a solid, compact solution to emergency exit safety and security. It will be available in the colours "silver" and "white" and also in a bespoke "design" finish
