MBB Gelma Consulting & Fieldengineering Service
A comprehensive programme for tailored security solutions
Ennepetal. At no time in the past has the issue of building security been so acute as it is today. It has long ceased to be the sole domain of special safety and security personnel and has instead acquired an overriding importance in most companies with the scale of conceivable threats extending from simple theft to industrial and data espionage and even terrorist attacks.
Depending on the size, business and importance of a company, its individual risk profile may range from zero or low to medium or high, with the safety and security measures required becoming increasingly sophisticated as the curve rises. This leads to the necessity of individualised customer and building-related advice.
As part of its consultancy service portfolio, MBB Gelma will be presenting a Pre-Security Check in the form of a survey at Security 2004. Based on a special catalogue of questions, this will serve to determine the current level of security of respondents and to identify deficits that may need rectifying within the framework of a comprehensive detailed analysis and consultation with MBB Gelma’s experts.
The questionnaire will involve determining the current security status of companies and organisations, and also their current level of security equipment.
It will include peripheral security of the site, security of the exits and entrances, the extent to which the external and internal areas of the building are protected, and an estimate of the efficiency of already installed security systems such as intruder alarms, access control systems and CCTV. It will also address issues such as emergency exits and estimating the efficacy of personnel checks.
The survey finishes with an efficiency analysis of security processes such as the ID card system applied to control the movements of employees, visitors and externals, and also the assignment of responsibilities relating to security within the company.
A scoring system provides an indication of the overall security situation while also revealing weaknesses in individual areas that may require specific remedial measures.
From general outline to complete system solution
The next step in the consultation deals with constructional and physical aspects of the building and its surroundings, infrastructural features such as people, material and information flows, technical security and organisational parameters, together with the issue of personnel control.
The other activities catered for in the consultation package include
- a rough analysis of the threats and risk factors relevant to the security system as a basis leading to a specifically aligned catalogue of measures;
- an analysis of the processes and procedures relating to the “access control” issue;
- a workshop to define the objectives and requirements which the requisite security system has to satisfy;
- preparation of a project specification;
- and a final workshop to fine-tune the terms of reference for the project.
The next stage involves dealing with aspects of project planning, the preparation of specific tender specifications, vendor appraisals and supplier selection, concrete order award negotiations, and contract preparation.
The responsibilities and tasks assigned to the project management phase will derive from the practical implementation of the defined solution, i.e. project control including monitoring of the milestones, progress chasing and simultaneous costing. The smooth coordination of the individual phases and trades must also be ensured, as must successful completion of the interim and final acceptance procedures.
With this consultation and field engineering service portfolio, MBB Gelma is able to provide companies and organisations interested in the development and expansion of security systems with a decision-making aid based on decades of experience. The aim is to arrive at a viable and comprehensive problem solution without undue bias toward the company’s own product range.
In addition, the field engineering team is capable of developing speciality and customised solutions of all types dealing with both the hardware and software aspects of the problem.
