Covering 76,000 square metres of the former Saale Park in Günthersdorf in the Halle/Leipzig region of southeast Germany, the ‘nova eventis’ is a unique shopping and amenities centre comprising around 220 individual boutiques, department stores, service-providers, restaurants, bars and cafés. This mall has been built on the themes of water and light: "We wanted to create a visual experience using all the various states and applications of water," explains Jörg Nierward of ECE Projektmanagement, Hamburg. The ‘Erlebniskai’ (Quay of Sensations) in the lobby area enables people to experience things such as boating and ice-skating. Fountains and other areas of water maintain the theme as visitors progress into the interior. Further sensations are provided by patterns of light reflecting the different seasons.
