The Boehringer Ingelheim Center

The Boehringer Ingelheim Center - Corporate identity in a building

"Value creation through innovation" - the maxim of Boehringer Holding - was also to be applied to its new administrative building.

With his initial idea, Thomas Beucker from the architects Beucker, Maschlanka and Partners brought a unique shape to the demand for openness, transparency and a communicative ambience combined with technical efficiency and reversible room utilisation: a building in the form of a 45º triangle with an atrium under a glass roof and an elliptical section integrated in, yet also protruding from, the glass façade of the front face. The innovative rope structure of the 1,000 m2 glass roof and of the hanging glass façade with its remarkably lightlooking struts and the relatively few point fixings for the panels, impressively exemplify the "leitmotif" of transparency and openness.

And the theme continues down the two office wings with their generous glazing. Not only was Thomas Beucker responsible for design, he was also the artistic supervisor charged with overseeing the implementation of the new corporate design throughout the building. The development work was accompanied by Quickborner Team, and the architects Held + Partner were responsible for the site management.

Prominent Features

The solution for the administrative centre

Innovative building techniques, advanced information technology, efficient air-conditioning and building control systems - the Boehringer Ingelheim Center has been built on the basis of an exclusively state-of-the-art remit. Needless to say, the door technology was no exception. Fully automatic DORMA ED 200 operators were adapted to the heavy swing doors of the façade area. In the case of the interior doors, the decision - where required by architectural design - went in favour of the concealed cam action door closer system DORMA ITS 96 in its different guises. Moreover, various Softline versions from the "construction kit" of the multi-functional DORMA TS 93 door closer system were installed throughout the building. The glass doors were equipped with furniture and fittings from DORMA-Glas and the emergency exits also received security control systems from DORMA. Aesthetically elegant solutions offering the highest level of functionality throughout.
