The International Neuroscience Institute - An innovative centre of excellence

The remit is tough:

A centre of excellence for research and treatment of nervous diseases. The clinic architecture - innovative: On the outside the form of a head, and inside - along the horizontal section - a design similar to the structure of a human brain. The architects of SIAT, Architektur+Technik, Munich, were responsible for the entire concept of this unusual building, including the interior design and lighting scheme. To emphasise the volume of the structure and veil its multi-floored design, the building carcass was designed in the form of two overlapping glass shells. In the form of an air-conditioning outer skin covered with coloured, in some cases printed glass elements, the design has an interesting estranging effect: The building appears to dematerialise as you gaze.

Prominent Features

The solution for the INI Vulnerable areas such as operating theatres, research laboratories and wards, not to mention the high quality demands placed on the building in general, meant that the door hardware, systems and furniture had to be carefully selected - so DORMA was brought in.
