Expo 2000 - Deutsche Telekom

T-digit

Deutsche Telekom’s EXPO building is truly an angular affair. First you have the 16 x16 m cube as a multi-functional terminal providing the telecoms link between EXPO and the rest of the world. Secondly - something quite unusual - there is the elevator which connects the various levels within the cube. The lift floor is straight but the rest is very much inclined. The static analysis and the requirement for safe and reliable guidance of the elevator doors represented problems which could not be solved using a standard design. Consequently, the Christian Hein company (DORMA Group) developed and manufactured a one-off solution as a world first. This enabled the "skewed" character of the building to be maintained throughout.
