María Pita Square

The María Pita Square is located in the heart of the city, creating a beautiful architectural environment.  The square’s name comes from a local heroine who fought against the English sailors sent by Drake, the famous pirate, during his attack on La Coruña.

The square is surrounded by old buildings with stone porches that protect them from the strong rainfalls in that area.

This is the place where in the past you could drink wine or taste foods on the terraces around the square. In 2002, the La Coruña Mayor determined that these terraces could be used throughout the whole year, so he ordered a uniform design for all the terraces, equipped with automatic doors (all glass version) and DORMA HSW mobile panel systems.
