Expanding DORMA’s international presence in strategically important markets constitutes one of the main building blocks of the DORMA 2020 push for growth. Through acquisitions, joint ventures and the opening of new subsidiaries, DORMA is developing sales markets and extending its product portfolio to further enhance its ability to offer integrated solutions “circling the door”. In the course of its 2011/12 financial year, for example, the DORMA Group acquired the company Florida Door Control Inc., one of the largest independent suppliers of automatic doors in the USA. And in China, DORMA established the joint venture Yantai DORMA Tri-Circle Lock Co. together with a renowned Chinese lock manufacturer. In addition, the family-owned company headquartered in Ennepetal opened subsidiaries in Uruguay, Qatar, Malaysia and South Korea. DORMA is also investing in research and development in major emerging markets. During the fiscal year just passed, for example, the company set up research and development centers in both Singapore and Indonesia. And in October of this year, DORMA acquired 40 percent of the family-owned Italian company ISEO. With this, the DORMA Group has extended its product portfolio through the addition of new and complementary lock cylinders and master key systems, locks and panic exit devices.

Example projects, Area Germany
Equipped with automatic sliding doors, swing door operators, door closers and Universal glass patch fittings from DORMA, Frankfurt Airport’s new terminal concourse A-Plus was inaugurated at the beginning of this October, ready to handle the six million passengers per year for which it was designed.
High-tech from DORMA can also be found in Zoofenster in Berlin. Among other things, this 118 meter high and 32 storey building complex is to house Germany’s first Waldorf Astoria Hotel. DORMA’s contribution to the build includes automatic doors, architectural glass hardware, door closers and emergency exit systems in an order valued at over 1 million €.
DORMA has long been connected to Germany’s reigning soccer league champion Borussia Dortmund (BVB). The club’s stadium, Signal Iduna Park, features a number of DORMA products. And looking forward, BVB is also relying on DORMA’s expertise for further upgrading the stadium’s security and access control systems. In September this year, moreover, DORMA gained the status of official BVB product partner.
Example projects, Area North & East Europe
Products from DORMA were also present and prominent as the 2012 Summer Olympics got underway in London, with the company reaping the benefit of its many years of expertise gained in the construction of sport stadiums. Indeed, DORMA provided several stadiums, the Olympic Village, the Media Centre and the Orbit Tower in the Olympic Park with, inter alia, more than 2,500 door closers and 150 panic hardware systems.
In Russia, DORMA is providing the newly founded Sberbank Corporate University with locks, cylinders, pull handles and door closers. This institute of further education owned by Sberbank, Moscow, Russia’s largest and oldest state bank, is scheduled for completion in 2014.
Example projects, Area Mediterranean/Middle-East/Africa
A new city district is currently under construction in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, with a total area of 1.6 square kilometers and more than 40 separate buildings. The intention is to establish the King Abdullah Financial District as a leading financial center in the Middle East. And DORMA’s entire product portfolio is being applied in this project, with the company benefiting particularly from its international standing and its ability to supply products on an intra-regional basis.
The total order volume here exceeds 6 million €.
In India, DORMA is involved in the construction of various new office complexes for Tata Consultancy Services, one of the top ten technology companies in the world. With its proven competence in office concepts, the DORMA Group has been a Tata partner for four years now, supplying door control hardware and systems, automatic doors and movable walls/partition systems to the company.
Example projects, Area Americas
DORMA products also score big in the major sports associated with the Americas, especially football. In Santa Clara, California, a new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers is currently being built with seating capacity of around 70,000. And the DORMA Group supplied the custom HSW horizontal sliding walls installed at the venue. The order value in this case was more than US$ 3 million.
DORMA has also developed a tailored product solution for the United Nations in New York, the building of which has to comply with the highest security standards. Crane Revolving Doors, a US subsidiary of the DORMA Group, was chosen to supply a number of blast-resistant revolving doors for the project. To this end, Crane collaborated with Benson Industries, North America’s leading glass supplier.
DORMA’s brand promise of design excellence and aesthetic elegance means that the company offers an ideal match with the luxury fashion brand, Burberry. DORMA supplied a unique revolving door from Crane as the company’s avant-garde entrance ensemble of stainless steel on the Magic Mile in Chicago. And around the world, further Burberry flagship stores are at the planning stage, with orders for further such doors in the offing.
Example projects, Area Asia-Pacific/Australia
For the Chinese National Museum in Beijing, which has been refurbished and expanded in recent years under the guidance of the Hamburg architectural group Gerkan, Marg & Partner, DORMA supplied a range of products and systems including automatic sliding door operators, various door closers, locks and similar hardware to a value of over 150,000 euros. With a total floor space of around 195,000 m2, the Chinese National Museum will be the largest museum building in the world.
DORMA was also involved in the construction of Subway Line 1 in the Chinese city of Suzhou. With an order volume in excess of 500,000 euros, DORMA has already delivered a broad array of products for this project, including door closers, mortise locks and exit security devices and locking systems. Thanks to its excellent transport communications, Suzhou – a city not far from Shanghai with over 4 million inhabitants of its own – is regarded as a boom town in today’s modern China. In all, four subway lines are planned, combining in a total length of 140 kilometers (around 88 miles). Line 1 is already open, and the entire network is expected to be completed within the next four to eight years.
In Brisbane, Australia, DORMA won a project in the health sector, an area in which this premium supplier sees huge business potential for the future. This order was for the Queensland Children’s Hospital designed by the renowned Australian architectural group Conrad Gargett. DORMA’s contribution included almost 2000 units of the TS 93 door closer alone. This system stands apart not only because of its high-quality design but also and particularly due to its exceptional ease of use and fully controlled closing action – an indispensable feature in healthcare facilities especially. The current order value for DORMA products destined for the children’s hospital, which is due for completion in 2014, amounts to the equivalent of 1.2 million €.
