As of 2016, DORMA South Africa is the proud sponsor of Olympic athlete, Candice Neethling. Candice’s dedication to her sport is the embodiment of the DORMA guaranteed excellence and “we are thrilled to have her in the DORMA family so that we can help make her dreams a reality”- Shaun Frayne, Regional Director DORMA South Africa.
Though she is only 23, Candice’s youthful spirit is not to be underestimated as her target is set firmly on the start line of 2016 Rio Olympic Games, which will be her second Olympic appearance. In fact, Mountain Biking was only introduced to the Olympic circuit in 1996, when Candice could just reach the pedals of her red BMX. Fast forward a few years and Candice is representing South Africa at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. DORMA approached this cross-country powerhouse because “Candice is a rider of integrity and that is one of the DORMA guiding values”. Spending 15 to 22 hours on her Cannonade Scalpel bike per week, Candice works on all aspects that will make her faster on the course. This includes endurance, speed, strength, sprints, interval and skills training on both MTB and road bikes. She also does functional strength training to prevent injury.
DORMA is the trusted global partner for premium access solutions and services enabling better buildings. DORMA produces architectural hardware which includes door handles, hinges, locks, cylinders as well as hydraulic door closers, glass fittings, automatic door operators and has a growing service division ensuring the brand is the holistic provider for all architectural requirements. Just over two years ago, DORMA SA Regional Director, Shaun Frayne, took an interest in mountain biking and has inspired DORMA SA employees and clients to do the same. Shaun says that Mountain Biking gives him “a real sense of inner peace” as he loves the outdoors and the magnificence of the country as well as igniting his competitive spirit.
DORMA SA hosts regular MTB technical skills clinics for clients nationwide and “having Candice on board opens the company up for more inclusive client events such as ladies-only and family mountain bike skills clinics” says Shaun. Candice adds that she is “excited about working with DORMA because they share the same passion as me, and carry that through into business. Working with positive people with good values is such a pleasure. I am also grateful for the support DORMA is offering me, as it is vital to my performance as an athlete. I can't wait to get involved and add value to the company in my own unique way”.
'The more time I spend outside my comfort zone in training, the greater the gain for me'
