Less than a month after placing second in the Masters ABSA Cape Epic (despite breaking his hand), Team DORMA SA Cyclist Nico Pfitzenmaier is ready for the next stage race, the renouned joBerg2c. The joBerg2c is a 9-Day, 923 kilometer mountain bike race from Gauteng to Kwa-Zulu Natal. We hear that ‘the route is king’ because the landscape and sights are incomparably picturesque. 800 cyclists ride from Heidelberg through the majestic midlands with a triumph (and likely emotional) finish at Scottburgh beach. Nico participated in the joBerg2c in 2013 with Timo Cooper where they placed 3rd overall. This year, Nico is competing as a solo racer and says he is “very excited to be part of this race which takes us through amazing trails and landscapes in the GPS navigated route!”
The joBerg2c has a strong community building focus and rather than outsourcing, the organizers utilize the skills of those that live in the area. Local schools, churches and organizations are paid for their hospitality services, whether it is setting up the race village, transporting luggage, managing water points, cooking, cleaning and so forth. It allows the residents to get involved in an exciting way while raising money for their respective causes. This trade ensures that the community is uplifted, making the joBerg2c a truly South African race with the exquisite raw landscape and our famous farming culture camaraderie.
